The building block of nucleic acids are called nucleotides. When these nucleotides form extremely long molecules, they are called polynucleotides. A nucleotide is composed of three different molecules:
A phosphate group.
A sugar ( 5 Carbons)
A nitrogenous base.
The sugar is the central component of the nucleotides.
